3.2 Convey a dance quote

My quote is - "don't cry because it’s over, smile because it happened". This quote was said by Dr. Suess. He was an American writer and cartoonist most famous for his children's books.

This quote is about the ending of things, it’s about saying goodbye, it’s about moving on, or moving away.
My key words are - "cry" "over" "smile" and "it happened". These key words I will be using to develop my motif(s) and will help me to choreography my dance.

My intention is to show that things do happen for a reason but no matter what they are we need to learn to smile and carry on with our lives and move on.

Throughout my choreography process I thought about my quote and how it can be formed into dance moves. In my dance piece, I have many turns and performing moves on one side of the room and then another side, I did this because one of my key words I used to choreograph my dance was “over” and “it happened” so by moving in different directions, doing turns and running across the room showed that things do happen weather they have a reason or not and we have to get over them and move on. Throughout my dance class at school, I started to choreograph the start of my dance. I found it easier this way as I had my music to help me which was called R&B love song instrumental beat “our storm”. I choose this song because I found it easier to dance to a beat rather than a beat and lyrics. I wanted something that had a continuous beat and then added instruments into it throughout the song because I felt it would relate to my quote, we live each day as normal but things happen (different beats) and we get over them and smile. I thought the higher beats in the song represented the keyword “smile” as it was the only happy higher beat in the 2 minutes of dance. At the start of my dance I walked on backwards slowly, this represented walking from out of one day into another. Then my next move was walking on my toes while having both hands on my shoulders, this represented “smile” almost like walking into another day all happy, cheerful and confident within myself. My next move was my Motif. I choreographed a motif that represented the key words cry, it happened and over. I leaned side to side at the same time leaning I used my hands to brush over my face using the same arm as the side I was leaning to. This represented ''cry" as it shows the tears coming down my face, while wiping them away by using my hands brushing over my face. The second move was a turn that represented the words "it happened" and "over" this showed it was a new day and to turn around over to the next day and move on. I repeated my motif five times and developed them by changing the position of it. At the end of my dance I did a big jump with both my legs bent, my right one was bent and at the front of my body and the left one bent tucked at the back and both my arms were straight up pointed. This represented being happy and enjoying the day. After that I fell to the ground and walked out into a blank with my arms, followed by that I then did a simple bum roll and walked off stage slowly to my right side of stage. This represented walking over my problems that had brought me down and made me feel sad, Turning over from one day and slowly walking into another not knowing what will happen but keeping our heads high and being happy is all we can do no matter what the days bring us.
